13.5-Inch Cast Iron Braiser - Seasoned Misfit

We got the seasoned 13.5” skillet. We love it. We have made a big breakfast all in one pan. Nonstick and USA made! We are happy!

Got this brasier just in time for Thanksgiving. Was originally going to us it to roast the turkey on but I smoked the turkeys this year and used this pan for the mac and cheese. Went from the oven to table as a serving dish. Looks beautiful and performs amazing! Not as heavy as I expected. The dual handles makes moving around so easy.

Just got this pan and the first thing I noticed was the beautiful design. I used it immediately to cook coconut curry chicken on my induction stove. After a brief preheat of a minute or two, I brought the pan up to temp once and it never warped. I was able to bring the contents to a boil and keep them cooking at a lower heat setting than I expected.

Suffice it to say, this is an artfully crafted cast iron pan with solid, durable construction.

I have 2 countertop cast iron racks. The Stargazers sit amongst my Great Grandmothers Griswolds, my Butterpats and a Smithey.
But... the pans I reach for every single time are always the Stargazers. Every single time!

People talk about seasoning these pans. I have never done anything but stove top seasoning of the cook surface, about once a year, and the pans are perfectly nonstick and used daily. Just cook, that's all you need to do. Medium heat is all that's needed.

These are the Griswolds of this century. They arrive looking like art and yet, right out of the box, they are ready for generations of feeding us and our families. I love the early months of splotchy *looking* seasoning (it only *looks* like it's gone!) while fading slowly into years of feeding the people that mean the most to me and the smooth dark brown finish that tells of a life well lived. Just like my Great Grandmother's Griswolds, they will tell the same story to the future.
(your teflon and even stainless will end up taking up space in mountains made from trash/landfills)
Buy it for life. A life lived well. Mindful instead of mindless consumerism.
If you can, buy one, even if you have to save pocket change for a year, I predict that Stargazer will be the one you always reach for first.

We have the 12 inch Stargazer skillet and when I saw the email for the braiser on sale, well, couldn't pass that by! Just cooked a meal in it, Kent Rollins "sparklin taters," and it's a hit! Both the dish and the skillet. The skillet or braiser does everything the 12 inch will do, except more. Larger size means larger capacity and the ability to feed more folks with a single dish. In this case, the potatoes. I use a long link sausage, like Kielbasa cut into pieces instead of bacon and along with the onions and green chilies makes almost enough to fill up a large crock pot. In fact if your braiser is full, your crock pot will be about 95% to capacity. It will make a LOT of food. Enough to feed at least 10-12 people and maybe more. We are completely sold on Stargazer quality and finish and love the even heat application which cast iron provides. The finish is perfect and literally took me five minutes to clean and re-season on the stove top once we cooked that huge meal. If you're undecided about whether or not you should get this one, just stop reading and place your order already. You are going to love it! It will probably replace several of the pans you're currently using. And I've already ordered the "just announced" cast iron lid for both this one and for our 12 inch regular skillet. Can't wait to begin cooking with those cast iron lids! Thanks to all the folks at Stargazer for a wonderful product and for helping to bring back a resurgence in cast iron cooking. So happy with these products! Can't wait to see what they come up with next! Whatever it is, I'm sure it will be great!
